River cities co-operation platform partners (listed in Annex 1)
Background and Purpose
the River//Cities Platform is
• a partnership between cultural, environmental and political initiatives, for example
Cultural River Festivals
Cultural Producers
Research Organizations
Local Authorities
which work in their cities to interact with and develop their rivers or waterfronts as cultural spaces
Aim
the river is a place that may connect many important fields in the city:
• environment
• architecture
• city planning
• transport
• arts
• culture
• cultural tourism
• education
working on local, European and international levels, the platform partners research and work to develop the potential of the river and other urban waters – in cultural, educational, social and economic terms
Key objectives of the platform's work:
•heighten the significance of the river/waterfront areas in the everyday life of the cities
• explore rivers/waterfront areas as an urban territory for sustainable development and a source of artistic inspiration
• increase access and enable civic engagement with waterfront public space
• negotiate the barriers to successful cross-sectorial working and social inclusion
• encourage partnerships and artistic co-productions
• share concepts and practice
General responsibilities
Platform partners sign a declaration of intent which confirms their willingness to comply with this Memorandum.
According to capacity, co-operation platform partners agree to work together and to develop programmes and activities to fulfil these objectives
The Platform partners will hold an Annual General Meeting to review action plans, platform participation and organisational matters.
Decisions made at the AGM, are by majority voting of those partners present.
Observers are welcome as platform participants, but as non-signatories do not hold voting rights
Observers can become full partners on signing up to this memorandum.
Participants are self-selecting, there is no approval process required.
Specific Responsibilities
A Steering Committee is charged as a working group to realise the tasks specified in the action plan, at the Annual General Meeting. A minimum of three people will be agreed at each Annual General Meeting. This can be expanded at any point following expression of interest. All platform participants are encouraged to take as active a role in task delivery as possible.
The Steering Committee will communicate electronically via group email with all platform participants in order to make decisions between meetings that will affect the action plan
