Thames Festival Trust
Not-for-Profit Charitable Trust
The Thames Festival Trust is an not for profit organisation that annually delivers Totally Thames, a large scale celebration of the river. Totally Thames takes place over the month of September and brings the river to life via an exciting season of arts, cultural and river events throughout the 42-mile stretch of the Thames in London.
The programme is promoted widely via partner organisations both nationally and internationally with an invested interest of the river. In 2015, 2.6 million people attended over 200 Totally Thames events and the London-wide marketing and PR campaign achieved 800+ media breaks to the value of approx. £2 million and reaching 1 billion people: www.totallythames.org
Totally Thames is endorsed and supported by The Mayor of London, London First, Arts Council England, Port of London Authority and all 17 London boroughs with a riverfront. It is organised and delivered by Thames Festival Trust.
What we do:
• Commission highly distinctive, artistic, river, foreshore and waterfront interventions.
• Installations, exhibitions, performances and animations in river environments.
• Riverfront festivals and celebrations
• Education and outreach programmes to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the river’s history, environment and ecology.
Since 1997 when the famous wire walk took place across the river Thames in central London, the Thames Festival Trust has organised 18 fun, free festivals along and on the river. What started as an event around the South Bank has stretched to embrace the length of the river from Westminster to Tower Bridges and St Katharine Docks. Thousands of events have been organised in that time, connecting communities with culture with their river, from large scale river installations, archaeology, street carnivals to live performance in unique riverside venues and fireworks to family feasts on a bridge.
Over 10 million people have enjoyed the Thames Festival since 1997. Today the Thames Festival Trust, led by Artistic Director Adrian Evans, who was the Pageant Master for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee river celebrations, is expanding the concept from central London to the whole river in London, from Richmond to Havering, under the banner Totally Thames.
Thames Festival Trust is funded by Arts Council England, the Mayor of London, London First and many other sponsors and supporters. It is a founding member of River//Cities, an international platform that aims to increase the impact of culture on urban waterways and waterfronts.
