City of Kalmar, Culture and Recreation Office - Kalmar, Sweden
One of our responsibilities is a development of regional strategies and culture in Kalmar, in close cooperation with city’s cultural institutions, and getting those institutions ‘out of their buildings’ and making them work more in the city environment.
Kalmar is an old seaport. The central parts, Kvarnholmen (Islet of Mills), were formed in the 17th century. The island Öland, connected to Kalmar by the Öland bridge, is one of the most popular touristic areas in Sweden. Kalmar is developing new ways of developing city plans in dialogue with inhabitants, enhancing young people’s creativity and opening up a new role for cultural workers.
