Warsaw closer to the river

The left-bank boulevard in Warsaw is finally about to change. The city council has just announced the invitation for bid for its redevelopment. A contractor should be known by April. From that moment on the works should be started at full blast, with a possible slowdown during UEFA Euro 2012.

The redevelopment concerns a part of the boulevard between the Old Town and Świętokrzyski Bridge, which is almost 2 kilometers long. Its first stretch, near the Old Town, should be finished in 2013.

How will the new boulevard look like?

Till now the boulevard did not have much to offer: one restaurant, water tram, ferry… and that’s all. But everything is about to change. The new boulevard for pedestrians will be 6 meters wide, with a modern bicycle path next to it. There will be the Living River Park near the Copernicus Science Centre: a perfect place to relax among the greenery. As there are already many people coming to the left bank in order to sunbathe or have a picnic, an artificial beach with beach baskets and deckchairs will be created especially for them. Some space for picnic blankets is also planned although more places suitable for a barbecue are to be found on the right bank.

On the new boulevard one will also find comfortable benches to lie on, bike racks and quays for smaller boats. After a long walk a dinner or a coffee in one of the numerous restaurants and cafes will be a wonderful idea.

The whole area will be wheelchair accessible.
